Stop Motion – In Situ Reflection #4

This week in class we worked on using the Zing Studio App. We were split into groups of 3-4 people and myself, Lauren Penney, Barbra Skawski, and Carolyn Mclean made a video in class!

Here it is!

Thoughts/Feelings:

This was such a fun activity we decided to make the video twice! (Not because I used the wrong mode the first time taking the pictures… oops) But this mistake let us redo it and change some of the pictures we didn’t like the first time around. In the video we realized halfway through that we were making too big of movements which we began to make smaller ones halfway through. We played around with the sounds and the zoom functions as well. I am happy with this as it was our first time!

Video with Students:

After learning how to use the app, we went to an elementary school and got to create a video with the students. This was such a fun experience being able to listen to the creative minds and have them teaching us on the app even better!

Pictures While Observing:

Final Product:

They were able to record themselves singing as our theme was a Taylor Swift concert. There were many laughs and many smiles shared between us, the students, and their desk pets who were the stars of the show! I think stop motion is a great activity in the classroom in small groups. It allows students to use their imagination and for all of them to voice their opinions and problem solve at the same time. They have to think about past, present, and future events before they can create their movie. It also allows for the class to all share their results with all other students and watch they created and have a sense of pride in what they made.

Conclusion:

The Zing! app makes it very easy to make videos and it was a great experience being in the classroom. I can’t wait to share with you what we have in store for next week. Thank you for reading as always and stay tuned in the next coming days!
